We are a small house. We make few bags, slowly.
Each one is cut, stitched and finished by a single craftsman, and signed inside with his initials. Not ours. His.
Two hundred hours, in three acts.

The hide decides
Every hide is full-grain vachetta, cut by hand around the scars. We waste more leather than most houses buy.

Two needles, one seam
Saddle-stitched with waxed linen thread. Two hundred hours. A machine cannot tie this knot.

Then it rests
Edges are burnished with beeswax until they shine like the hardware. Then it rests for seven days before it leaves.
The Ouvrage N°1
You are not paying for advertising. We do not advertise. You are paying for the hide, the hours, and the hands.
THREAD · waxed linen, saddle-stitched
HARDWARE · solid aged brass
LINING · none. The inside is the outside.
MARK · the craftsman's initials, hidden inside
Move your light across it.
The questions people actually ask.
Why is there no logo?
A logo tells strangers what you paid. The stitching tells them what you value. The people who know, know.
Will it really last?
A saddle stitch fails one hole at a time, never all at once. Bring the bag back in twenty years and we will make it new. That promise is part of the price.
Why the wait?
We make eight bags a month. One craftsman starts your bag and the same craftsman finishes it. The waitlist is the price of that, and we will not shorten it by hurrying.
What am I actually paying for?
The hide, the hours, and the hands. Nothing in the price pays for advertising, because there is none.
Can I buy one outright, or must I commission it?
Both. Each month's eight bags are sold as made, first come, first served. A commission takes longer and is yours alone. The price is the same unless your ideas are expensive.
Or have one made for you alone.
The N°1 can be purchased as made, above. For something of your own, sized, dyed and finished to your life, the atelier receives visitors by appointment. Write to us and we will find an hour that suits you.
